CERAMICS
I make bricks and brick-like objects using the ceramic process. The standardized brick form provides a constant through which transformation becomes apparent. I am interested in what becomes visible when those expectations fail.
My actions in the making process are systematic, making material variables easier to observe. Cracking, melting, warping and other irregularities become records of the process rather than defects.
I use repetition as a way of understanding material behavior. By making similar objects under changing conditions, I can observe how clay, process, and heat affect what the object becomes.
